On Monday, we finished our read aloud novel "Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen. As is our tradition, we held a 'book celebration' in honour of this special event. In the story, 13 year old Brian Robeson is stranded in the Canadian wilderness, and must learn to depend on himself for survival. Food, water, and shelter are just a few of the challenges he had to overcome. For our celebration, Miss Burston and I prepared a scavenger hunt in the library to recreate the many obstacles of Brian's journey. Armed with a list of survival items, they had to hunt high and low for things like fish, water, survival packs, and firewood. We are happy to report that everyone survived!
